While playing Apples to Apples: The word: Dirty The choices: Amputation, or Honeymoon Stephanie: “Do I want to take this literal, or make it dirty? I choose Honeymoon.” (Looks at me expecting it to be me who played Honeymoon) Malikai jumps for joy: “Yay!”

Christmas 2007!
Here are some pictures from our Christmas.Malikai sleeping with his teddy bear.
Eating some blocks, one of Malika's Christmas presents.
Malikai never actually opened any presents, he just played with the packages for awhile.
Cats, for Christmas? Malikai and the cats playing with a box together.
Sleeping under the tree, before it got destroyed.
A picture of Malikai's birthday cake. It tasted so good!
My sexy wife! I'm so glad I married her, she's the greatest person I have ever met! Nobody could ever come close to replacing her.
BONUS! Some more pictures of Malikai smiling.
Happy New Year everyone!

Merry Christmas!
Merry Christmas everyone!
A lot of people send out Christmas letters about what their family updates. Since I hate sending out letters (which is why I still haven't sent in my mail-in-rebate for my phone) and I'm a geek, I'll write a blog about the year.
The biggest news of the year is that we have a beautiful and healthy baby boy!
Malikai Jadon Zenor, born in December of 2006. He is now just over a year old and doing great. He is learning to walk on his own pretty well, and getting into almost everything. He knows how to climb steps, and I've gone through a lot of trouble trying to keep him off the stairs. Health wise, he hasn't gotten sick at all, and his height and weight chart is above average, so everything is perfect with him.
The events surrounding Malikai's birth were hectic and not the most fun. Danae went into labor during a blizzard, had to have the Army pick us up in a hummer and take us to the ambulance. That was a lot of fun, if only I had a picture of it. After Danae went through 2 1/2 hours of pushing Malikai was finally born. We had our family come out to visit and everyone got trapped in our house by another blizzard. That always causes stress and tension, a 1,080 square foot home with 10 people trapped inside for a few days.
Danae didn't have much fun either, she had Mono and Postpardum Depression at the same time, which made things quite hard. Because of all of that, DHS had to get involved. All in all, the beginning of the year was full of doctors appointments, court dates, and a bunch of other junk that we really didn't need at the time. Even several months after all of that was over with, we still got threatened with more legal action. Thankfully, I think we are passed all such actions. I really think none of it had to happen in the first place. When it all ended, we had the doctors, a therapist, the DHS case workers, and another court appointed family person all said that Danae and I both were taking great care of Malikai and all this junk shouldn't have happened in the first place.
I don't want to sound like I'm complaining, but this entire year has been full of extra stress and hassels, things that cost us extra money. But, we have a healthy baby boy, and for that we rejoice.
This year Danae and I have been searching for ways to witness to people online. This has been an interesting way to use our abilities (and addictions). There have been a few people online that we have brought back to the Bible, or just brought one step closer to following Christ. We have had our arguments with atheist, and sometimes we lose hope when not too many people show up, but we just have to remember, no matter how it looks, we don't know how God is going to use us.
I have also started school this year, taking online courses at Calvary Chapel Bible College. I just started my second course, only 32 more to go! So far I am learning a lot of really interesting stuff, but for now I just need to get going on this "textbook evaluation paper". It has to be 5-7 pages and I'm having trouble nailing down the main points of the book, there were so many good ones, it's hard to tell what the main one is. This first class requires me to do some work in the church, so I have been helping in the kitchen and nursery mostly. It has been a lot of fun, and even though it takes a lot of time I'm really glad that I get to do it.
Now that Christmas is almost here, we got the Christmas tree up. We didn't put up outside lights just because I have been tired, working long hours, and even on my nights off I have been dead tired. But I did took the time to put up the Christmas tree and decorate it real nice, but the cats promptly took care of that. Silly cats, climbing the tree at all hours of the night, unpugging the lights and batting down every ornament we had hanging. Next year I'll have to try some training techniques that someone told me about for cats. That should solve the problem so we can have a nice tree up, until Malikai gets ahold of it. So we will just have to figure out how to train Malikai to stay away from it. I'm sure bright shining lights and ornaments will not tempt him to go for it...
Anyway, that's it for this year. Only time will tell how next year turns out to be.
Merry Christmas everyone, and have a Happy New Year!

Jon's Birthday
Since my birthday was a week ago I thought it might be good to post about what I did on my birthday, since that is the kind of thing that people like to hear about.
So, on my big day, what did I do? I spent 12 hours at work and 2 hours driving to and from work. Oh boy, what fun it was. So for the most part it was a day just like any other.
When I got home I got to open my birthday gifts from Danae. I got a powerball and 2 new Dance Dance Revolution games for Xbox. All of them excellent gifts. Monday I spent playing one of my new DDR games, which was an okay game, but I prefered the old techno songs to the new American songs they played, it is hard to dance to Elvis...
But the other DDR game (Ultramix 4) has great music and a battle mode for two to four players. So I'm getting some exercise done finally. Also Monday I went to buy a new cell phone with the money from Danae's parents. It turns out that Verizon changed their new every two year policy a bit so I only got $50 off of the phone instead of the $100 I was expecting, so I still had to pay $50 of my own money, but that's okay. I got the new chocolate phone which looks really nice. The camera phone works great, as you can see from my post that I did while at Garden of the Gods. The money that my mom sent me I spent to buy a pair of ski boots, now I just need to get out and hit the slopes. I should be able to go next Monday now that the mountanis got some snow.
Speaking of snow, this weekend the forcasters predicted a heavy snow storm, slick roads high winds, all the things that make winter nasty. So Friday came along, with no snow, and Saturday was in the 60's.... at least the forcasters were close...
So that still leaves our winter mostly dry. On Friday night we did get a little bit of rain. I don't know how much, but when Danae and I went into the mall it was dry, and when we left the ground was wet and the sky mostly clear. But the mountains did get some snow so my ski trip should be a good one.
Saturday night I helped out at the nursury to help me get time for the college class that I am taking. I finished reading my text book but have procrastinated at writing the critical analysis of it. I need to get that started this week. Sunday morning while I was helping in the churches kitchen, a kid in the nursury set off the fire alarm during first service. That made for an interesting morning.
Work has had a few new things as well. I arrive at work tonight (I'm on the night shift now) and I'm notified that our shifts are changing, instead of being 6-6 they will be 7-7, starting tomorrow. So not only do they give absolutely no notice of this, but they didn't even make any plans to allow us to work only 12 hours so I have to do 13 hours tonight. On the slightly positive side they did work out a deal that will keep me on night shifts instead of me changing from days to nights. This will really help my body and my sleeping pattern, even though I will miss going to bed with my wife.
Another bad thing about getting off at 7 am instead of 6 am, that I just thought of, is that on Sunday mornings I will not be able to make it to hte first service at church, so that means I either show up late to church, or stay up a few hours later for the second service. I don't know if I will do that since I am already so tired when I try to drive home, but we will see. Of course the best option will be for me to get a job that isn't shift work, but God doesnt' seem to be opening any doors in that direction right now.
One thing that I forgot to mention, Malikai started doing some new stuff on my birthday. I saw him take his first few unassisted steps. He took 3 or 4 steps before falling down and I did capture it on video once. I will try to get the video posted online sometime during the next two weeks.
Anyway, I think I went on long enough. Have a good night everyone.

Happy Thanksgiving!
About a month ago I said winter was officially here, well after that it went back to warm days. finally last night it snowed again, not much, but it was there. So we have a snowy thanksgiving... Somewhat.
Today we will be doing what every family does on thanksgiving, cooking turkey, mashed potatoes, and more.
As we get ready for our feast remember that none of it is possible without God providing it for it. Especially be thankful for our salvation that we did not deserve to receive when Jesus paid the ultimate price. If you are thankful that your sins are no longer counted against you then take a few minutes today to spend some one-on-one time with God. The word of God is living and active (Heb. 4:12) and it is our link to God, so take just a little bit of time with the One that has done the most for you.
Happy Thanksgiving and praise be to God!

Building a fence
Several weeks ago I put up a safety gate by the stairs in our basement. This, of course, is to keep Malikai from getting access to the stairs, bathroom, or storage area in the basement.
We had a problem though. We can't use a tension gate (I really wish I could though, about half the price) because the slats in the stairs are too skinny. Malikai would only have to get the gate to move a half inch and the whole thing would fall down. So we got the kind that you screw into the wall. The only problem with this, is there are no studs near that area of the wall. So I bought a drywall anchor and used that to attach the gate to the wall.
Right away we could tell that the gate was too heavy for the anchors, so we would not be able to open and close it. We just leave it closed and climb over it. Everything went fine... until, that is, Malikai started to shake the gate. Now he loosened up the anchors and got them to move around in the wall. This resulted in a hole that was big enough to put my finger in.As you can see, that isn't a small hole. The result is that the gate was very shaky. It was still holding up, but with every shake it was tearing up our wall even more. So, what do you do in a situation like this?
I got some slats of wood and used those to screw into, and attached the wood to the single stud that is on that wall. It holds better, but the weight of the gate is still too much for that wood to hold to the wall since the stud is at the far end of the wall. Maybe using another anchor to attach the wood to the wall might help? The gate holds a lot better now but it puts a lot of strain if I try to open or close the gate, so I have to keep it closed all the time still. The entire project cost me ~$5.00 (not including the price of the gate) and about an hour's worth of work. Malikai liked to sit near me while I was working, although he didn't really like the sound of the drill too much.
And here is a picture of the finished product.
Just because I can't help myself, here are a few pictures of Malikai for you to enjoy.
And the cutest picture yet...

It's Official: Winter is here!
Lately the weather here has been getting colder, for the most part. We still have days where it is really warm but the feeling of winter is in the air. Well, it became official this Sunday, I woke up to a white wonderland outside. Okay, it wasn't a wonderland, but it was white and cold. Hard to believe that just the day before it was in the 80's. Colorado sure does have strange weather patterns. The snow was nice and wet, so it stuck real well, which made it perfect to build a snowman. We didn't build one, but somebody did, and it kept being modified throughout the day and the next day. First we just saw the snowman, the usual 3 snow balls stacked on top of each other, but then it had a nose and eyes just randomly appear throughout the day. Monday was nice and warm so the snowman slowly started to fall backwards. So I leave for work and there are a couple of girls playing with the snowman, and I had to come back because I forgot something and the girls had knocked over the snowman and were kicking him. It looked like a violent scene from a gang movie. The poor snowman just laying on the ground getting pink boots smashed into its face...
So the snowman is no more.
Well, if snow doesn't make it official enough, I went to the store to get the food we were taking over to some friend's house and what did I find? EGG NOG!!!
So yeah, Winter is officially here.
Malikai enjoyed the snow for a little while until we put his feet on the ground and since he kicked off his sock, he didn't like it too much.
It's too bad that Malikai is too young to really enjoy the snow, making snow angels or a snowman would be a real adventure for him, and fun to watch him do it for the first time. Only 4 more years until I will be taking Malikai skiing with me!
A Drive Through Corn Land
Last week I took some vacation time and Malikai and I drove through Nebraska to visit my family. The trip was okay, we had fun playing games and watching movies together. It is kind of different being there without my friends. Mark, the only friend that I had there that keeps in touch with me from time to time, has gone off to college in another state. I'm glad that he is able to move on with his life and do something, but it sucks not being able to visit at all.
On Friday night we went to my brothers High School football game. He is a senior and this is the end of the year, so it was an important game to them. The game was pretty action packed and the score was close the entire time.
My brother is in the center there, number 73. He did a good job at tackling and, as far as I could tell, made a big difference in the game. Sadly, they lost their game, it was close, with the winning touchdown being blocked at the one yard line. It really sucked since my brothers team has not won a game in over 2 years, and with the last game, next week, being a really good team, this was their last chance to win.
Friday night after the game was depressing because of the loss, but we were still able to enjoy some rounds of UNO and some conversations. Saturday I left really late and didn't get home until after 11 pm, and even though I enjoyed my time in Nebraska it was nice to be back home, esepcially after a long road trip.
In Other News
Sunday, during the snow storm we went to church and then went over to some friend's house for lunch. We used an in-door grill to grill up some burgers, played Baulderdash and watched Transformers. It was a great time together, with lots of good conversations. We talked about everything from work, to babies, since they are new grandparents themselves. We will have to do it again sometime soon.
Desert was a delicious, home made apple crisp with ice cream on the side. We could really use that recipe.
Sunday night I should have stayed up late to get used to my night shift work schedule again, but I was just too tired so I went to bed fairly early, after trying to catch up on world of warcraft, which was the only time I would get to play in a one week period of time. Hopefully Wednesday or Thursday night I will be able to play again for a short time. Speaking of Thursday, the gate that I put up for Malikai in the basement is being pulled out of the drywall, so on Thursday I will be going to buy some wood to reinforce how the gate is attached. I still have to find my power drill though or it will be a long tough job. Actually no, I would buy another cheap drill before attempting that by hand. Then I have to figure out a way to gate off the stairs on the main floor. There is no easy way to do it, so the best thing might be to just get one of those play yard things that we can use inside the house for Malikai. I will have to find out what works and what is available.
I'm making some plans to remodel my basement some, I am going to turn it into a home theatre room, with a dinky 19 inch television! My wife doesn't think that I will ever get around to finishing it, so that adds an extra challenge to the project. Hopefully I can get a circular saw for Christmas and then I will start working on building the bookshelves and cabinets to hold the TV in January. One of my reasons for doing this is I want to be able to cover everything up so Malikai can have a room that he can be completely safe in, not being able to get into any wires or lightup electronic devices. We will put a toy chest down there and it will be a great family room, fun for everyone.
Tomorrow is Danae's birthday and we are looking forward to going out for some sushi. Hopefully we can get a babysitter for Malikai so we can enjoy the evening out alone. Thankfully I only work that morning, I have that evening off so we will have plenty of time to do things.
What will Danae get for her birthday? Will the restaurant be fun?
Stay tuned to find out what happens for Danae's birthday!

Long Time Between Updates
Yes I realize that I have not been keeping up on writing my blogs as much as I would have liked. There are a lot of things that go through my head almost daily that I want to write about, I just don't take the time to sit down and write them. I will try to make the time to do this though. I want to write blogs often for a couple of reasons. One is that I like to keep people updated on the events of my life. The other reason is that I like to be able to look back on the blogs myself to see what I have done, almost like a life journal. So here is another entry in the life of Jon.
Two weeks ago Stephanie (Danae's sister) came out to visit. It was a fun and enjoyable time, where we went to church, the zoo, out for hikes, and various other places. Even though there were some sister fights and tension (as expected between sisters), for the most part the visit was very enjoyable for all of us. One day, we had a great oppertunity to drive through the mountains. It was a beautiful sunny day and the area that we went into had a lot of trees that were changing colors. It really shows the creativity that God has to make everything the way that it is and just the beauty that is in things that no artist can fully capture. How anybody could say that it is all here the way it is by accident is beyond my comprehension. Sadly, I left my camera home that day so I cannot share with you the awesome wonders of God's nature that we saw.
While at the zoo, one of the first animals that we got to see was the giraffe. Something intereting that I learned is that the giraffe has valves in it's blood vessels in its neck near the head, so that when it lowers its head down and back up it does not pass out from the blood rushing to its head and then a sudden rush of the blood rushing out of its head. My question to evolutionists is this, how did the giraffe know that it needed that? How did the DNA in the giraffe's body some how create this necessary body part that the giraffe could not survive without? It just makes no sense to me! The theory of evoultion is so fairy tale like sometimes that it stuns me to see how intelligent people could even consider it to be true. Anyway, enough about that.
So Malikai seemed to enjoy himself at the zoo a lot. There was one animal that was making a weird noise and Malikai tried to mimic the noise. It was funny to listen to. Every time the animal would make the noise Malikai would try something similar, but other than that he was pretty quiet all day. The zoo that we went to was nice, but it did make me miss the San Diego zoo. Now that is a nice zoo! At least it was the last time I went there years and years ago.
During the last couple of days we were enjoying playing some games, both UNO with custom rules, and baulderdash. The UNO game was interesting. The rule we had was that whoever won a hand, got to make up a new rule for the game. My rule was to have an undo card, that whenever you want you can play a 0 and make the last person take back the card they played and skip their turn. The girls, however, made different type of rules. Danae's was that you had to go outside and burp loudly whenever you play a wild draw 4. It did make people want to play the draw 4 less often, but I didn't enjoy the burping outside. Stephanie had a rule where you had to do an UNO cheer anytime you played an 8. So have some fun with these new rules and play a new exciting game of UNO!
The Saturday before Stephanie left I got real sick and had to call in sick from work. The bad thing was that I couldn't do anything all day because I was sick, but Danae and Stephanie took advantage of having the car so they went out for a few hours to go for a hike and a drive through another mountain road that is tucked away behind Garden of the Gods. So I stayed home with Malikai, mostly slept and watched movies but it was nice to have a day off from work. The following day I was feeling better so we went to church and then followed that with lunch at Cracker Barrel, which was some great food, but Malikai started to fuss a lot and was annoying the other people around so I had to just go pay for the food and sit in the car with him while Danae and Stephanie finished up their brunch. Malikai is getting really hard to take places sometimes, which makes me wish that we had a baby sitter so Danae and I could do things together.
While Stephanie was here we bought our two cats (see the previous blog) and we finally decided on the names. Mine (the bigger gray one) we are calling Merlin, and the smaller female we are calling Kunkali, or kali (pronounced collie) for short. Malikai is doing great with the cats, he seems to be enjoying them a lot. He still follows them around and tries to play with them. I'm glad that we made the decision to get the cats. Now the next big decision, to de-claw, or let them claw? As long as we stay on top of trimming their claws they are not destructive, but even with the claws trimmed it still hurts. We will wait and see what we will do.
Also that week I had a job interview. I have got to say, that was the strangest job interview that I have ever had. The first thing that really got me was that he asked for previous websites that I have built, so I pointed him to ETM and he spent a lot of time looking through the articles, he said he was just trying to figure out what I believed. After he mentioned something about how other Christians reply to his question about the sabath I asked if he was a Christian, and he was, so it started a 5 to 10 minute conversation about the Bible and what we believed and stuff. I know that it isn't the politically correct job interview discussion, but it is nice to have a conversation with a brother or sister in Christ like that. Then later he encouraged me not to take the job, because I would lose my security clearance if I did that. So yeah, the stragest interview that I ever had.
I had a good feeling about the company, people and job, but I never got called back so I think they picked someone who was asking for less money. The job would have been nice, but I'm kind of glad that I did not get it. I have been thinking about this a lot lately and I have finally decided what I want to do for the time being. I want to be a Windows Sys Admin, those jobs generally pay better and I'm good at it too. I just hope I can get into a job that will give me some serious Unix hands on experience. So if you have a job and you want to hire a Sys Admin, preferably in the Colorado Springs area, contact me! In the mean time, I updated my resume for this position I am going to pursue and I have been applying at a few jobs. Focus on the Family just happened to have a similar job opening show up on their website so I applied for that. Of all the jobs that I applied for, that is the job that I hope I can get. Even if they don't pay as much as some of the others, I would look forward to working in a Christian environment and especially at a job that is so close to my home. In the summer I could ride a bike to the job in about 20 minutes, or be lazy and drive the 5-10 minutes to the building. Some friends of mine know someone that works there, so hopefully I can get ahold of that person for a recomendation to help get my foot in the door.
We will see what happens, just please pray for me that I will find the job God wants me to be in. The shift work that I am doing now is tiring me out a lot and my sleep schedule has been completely off this last week. I don't know how long I can keep up these hours and the long drive. Plus, the longer you have to drive each day the higher the chance for an accident, especially when tired after a 12 hour shift. This week someone from our building got into a head on car accident outside work and is in ICU. Please pray for her, for God's healing if He wills, but most importantly that their family will be comforted and that she will come to know the Lord if she doesn't already. It just goes to show that you never know what may happen that will take the lives of a loved one, or a co-worker, or even ourself. No matter how tragic the incident may be, it is so much worse that we, the body of Christ, did not take the oppertunities that we had to share the gospel message with them. The latest statistics say that less than 2% of Christians evangelize (quoted from the Way of the Master) so if we don't reach out to those that we know, the chances are that nobody will.
Romans 10:13-15
For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.
How then shall they call on him in whom they have not believed? and how
shall they believe in him of whom they have not heard? and how shall they hear
without a preacher?
And how shall they preach, except they be sent? as it is written, How
beautiful are the feet of them that preach the gospel of peace, and bring glad
tidings of good things!
Oh that we may preach the gospel boldy to this lost world. I heard a quote from Charles Spurgeon that said something like "If this world does leap into the lake of fire, may they do it by leaping over our bodies trying to stop them, if they do want to go into the burning pit of hell, may it be with our arms wrapped around their knees trying to hold them back.." Why do we let this world blindly walk over the cliff of eternity into the pit of hell while we stand by and watch? How can the Christians of this world be so cruel? How can we care about our own comforts so much that we would not get up from our lazy boy chairs in front of our televisions or computers to stop these people from running into eternal damnation! How cruel the body of Christ has become in these last days... we have all the authority and power of the world, we can heal the sick, cast out demons, and offer Jesus's blood stained hands to these people to bring salvation and eternal healing, but we would dare not do that because we would be made fun of or feel scared.
How many people do crazy stunts for the feel of fear? Going on roller coasters, jumping out of an airplane, doing insane jumps with skateboards and motorcycles, we even go to horror movies that have the very purpose of scaring the living daylights out of us, but when it comes to saving the dying....
I guess in the end it doesn't really matter... let those who live in their sin spend an eternity in a place seperated by the grace of God, a place where they mourn over the truth they realize they have rejected, a place of nashing of teeth and burning of flesh... none of that really matters as long as we Christians are comftorable.
Really what it boils down to is a simple mathematical equasion. (m > c) Where m is our concern for our own comfort, and c is our concern for others. If we could just learn to care more about the lost than ourselves, to have a heart full of compassion then no excuse will keep us from sharing the gospel. Like a firefighter who runs into a burning building to save a family of 4, knowing that he may die and not even save them, but his care and concern for them is far greater than his concern for himself. Or like the Chineese Christian who recently went missing while trying to smuggle Bibles into China, the concern for getting the gospel to those who needed it far outweighs the concern for himself. We in America rarely face such drastic consequences, so what are we afraid of?
A lot of why Christians don't share their faith is because of the churches today. The churches teach that Christians should live rich and happy comftorable lives (which, by the way, is nowhere in the Bible). So that is what Christians do, they try to get rich, be happy and comftorable. That is why this generations churches are producing Christians that will tell God on the day of judgment "Many will say to Me in that day, 'Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in Your name, cast out demons in Your name, and done many wonders in Your name?' and then be told by God "'I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness!" (Matthew 7:22-23)
I will end here and say good night. May God bless you and give you the compassion to reach out to the lost.

Two New Little Ones in the House
For many months now I have really been wanting a pet. We tried last year to get a dog, but he ended up destroying our house ($200 + in damage in 2 months!!) so we had to get rid of him. I still really love dogs and wanted to give it another try, but, the HOA of our town home does not allow dogs over 30 pounds. What can you get for under 30? A chihuahua? No thanks.

- Danae's Cat -

- Danae and her cat -

We still have not picked out names for the cats. Currently we are thinking of Merlin or Dagher for my cat, and cricket for Danae's, but who knows what we will end up naming them. If you have ideas for names, leave a comment.
In other news, I have started my class at Calvary Chapel Bible College. A huge part of the grade is determined by 32 hours of church service, so next Sunday at church I am handing in an application to help out at church. At first it will be helping with facility stuff, but possibly doing more things later. Next month I will be eligible to be an usher and I am looking forward to that, as long as my work schedule will work out to allow it.
Wish me luck as I am doing my classes, this will be a lot of work and a lot of money, so I am waiting for the Lord to provide, both finances and wisdom.
Malikai has been doing okay lately. He is getting bigger, crawling around more, and getting into things. Tonight was especially annoying, he was crying a lot even while trying to feed him. Although later in the night I did get a smile out of him.

That is all that is new with us. Good night everyone!

The Sharp Bite
Hello everyone and welcome to another edition of the Making Disciples Blog. Sorry I have not written lately, but I have been kept busy, and tired by life.
Work has been making me so tired lately that I sometimes will go to bed as soon as I get home from work, without dinner or anything. Then I just sleep through until I wake up for work again. Very depressing life sometimes... I want to be able to spend time with Danae and Malikai when I get home from work. Oh well, we do what we have to do to pay the bills. So, on to some other news.
Malikai has been a little speed demon. He has fully mastered the crawl technique, staying on hands and knees, belly off the ground, and from one end of the room to the other in about 20 seconds or less. Whatever he sees that he wants, that's what he goes for. It's fun to watch him crawl around until he goes for something that he shouldn't. The fun is only beginning.
Malikai can also quickly stand up as long as he is supporting himself on something. Of course with standing up comes falling down, which he does a lot also. He needs to learn how to sit down instead of just falling down. It reminds me of kids who are learning how to roller blade outside. They figure out how to go, but don't really know how to stop so they just crash into the grass or nearest wall. Never does make much sense...
So, Malikai tried to suck on my finger the other day, and was biting down on it like usual, except unlike usual, this time the bite was a bit sharp. That's right, Malikai's first tooth is coming in. Lower front right tooth for those who absolutely must know every detail about it. I tried to take a picture of it, but they didn't turn out at all.
There is just one more thing that Malikai is doing that is new. And it can best be displayed by a picture. So here:
That's right, he is standing up on the second or third step, and all that with no assistance.
So of course this means I need to put up the gate that I have been procrastinating at putting up, but our stairs make it extremely difficult to attach a gate because the railing is so large and hangs down low. So tomorrow will be a trip to Home Depot so I can buy the stuff to screw it into the wall. Now I just need to find my drill which somehow wound up missing.
This weekend Danae's sister is coming into town. That should be a fun time, but it would be better if we actually had the money to do things. At least going for hikes at any of the many hiking places around here is free. We will be taking full advantage of that next week. Also this weekend we have to get the 60,000 mile service done on the car and buy Malikai some bigger winter clothes. Not looking forward to the extra expenses, but it's all a part of life. Even when we don't know how we are going to make certain payments, we know that God will provide. It just takes faith, even when that faith is hard to have.
Remember the passage where Jesus says that God provides for the birds, they don't have to worry about where their next meal will come from, and if God provides for the birds then how much more so will He provide for us? (Luke 12:22-34) It is so true, do we really think that God cares for us more than He does the birds of the air? If He does, then why should we ever worry about where our provisions come from? As Jesus said: "O you of little faith." It all boils down to faith. If we have faith, then we find that there is nothing to worry about.
Of course I still have a problem worrying about money sometimes, but then I just need to sit back and think about the truth's of the Bible. God does love us, so why would our heavenly father not provide for us? If even our earthly fathers provide for us when we ask for things such as food, and our earthly fathers being evil and sinful, how much more will our Heavenly Father provide, being perfect and good? (Luke 11:11-13)
Well I'm off to the world of Azuroth for an hour or so before going to bed, so until next time, I shall say good bye.
Good Bye!

It's all about the baby
As you can tell by the title, this post is entirely about Malikai (our baby).
I'll give a moment for all the excitement from family members to calm down......
Okay, let's begin.Malikai is quickly learning some new skills. One of these skills is how to pull himself up on things. This is not a good thing for a baby to do since all it will mean is messing with mommy and daddy's stuff, along with possibly hurting himself.
Of course, being the son of a geek, Malikai loves to go for any fancy looking electronics. He has even learned how to turn on the Playstation and Xbox (although he doesn't realize he is doing it yet).
So the chase begins, I'm not going to full myself into thinking that this will be the worst of the chasing, but just the brutal beginning. Every time I turn around I have to see what Malikai is trying to climb up on.
It was funny a couple of days ago, Malikai was underneath my computer desk trying to stand up against the wall (like you see him doing in the photo above) but the back part of my desk comes halfway down the wall. So as Malikai is bracing himself against the wall, he tries to push himself up only to hit his head on the bottom of the desk. He doesn't do it hard so it doesn't hurt him, but he doesn't learn, so he keeps trying until he finally gets so frustrated that he started to cry, and still he was trying to stand up, only to be held down by a computer desk... It was funny to watch him do until we felt sorry for him and picked him up (after laughing for awhile).
Speaking of Malikai climbing, today I walked into his bedroom and Malikai was standing inside his crib, braced on the edge. I knew this day would come, I have been meaning to lower the crib mattress for awhile now, but never really got to it. After seeing Malikai standing up like that it quickly motivated me to get it done. So today I adjusted his crib and put together the hi-chair that we bought for him last week, or the week before, can't remember which.
Some good news is that Malikai doesn't do that high pitched squealing noise anymore, but he has learned the art of annoying his parents with crying though. It's a good thing we have plenty of places to keep him when he is acting like this. We have a swing, play pen, and a play center that all keep him occupied. So when he gets really cranky we pick one of the three and leave him be. Even still though, he is still the worlds cutest baby!
Last week Malikai turned 8 months old! Besides that there really isn't anything new in our lives. We have just been doing the same old same old, playing games, cleaning house, taking care of Malikai, and grilling out. Today we grilled out some burgers and man, they were good. We need to do that more often! We also grilled up some chicken for tomorrow night before I go to work.
Speaking of work, it's 4:40 am and I have to get up in 8 hours to get ready for work, so I will end this with just one last note.
New pictures of Malikai are up on Malikai's website! Visit http://malikai.zssites.net to view them! (had to save the best for last, didn't I?)

Overall a good weekend
Another week has come and gone, but this time there are actually things that have happened!
1) My work schedule will be changing for awhile. In order to accommodate several people at work they need volunteers to work on the midnight shift for a couple of months. There are good and bad things to this decision, but I decided to do it anyway. The bad thing is that it's just hard to be working on a midnight shift, you get tired because your body wants to be asleep. The only way that I can handle it is to keep the same schedule on my days off. This makes it hard to spend time with Danae and Malikai though, since I'm sleeping in until after noon most days. The advantage to me taking this schedule is mainly for consistency. Having the same time to work will help out with a lot of things, including the school that I will be starting soon and the Truth Project Bible study.
2) Speaking of the Truth Project, I called the only member that was to show up to our Bible study on Friday, and he was coming back from Denver on a job so he couldn't make it on time, so we decided to just postpone the lessons for a couple of weeks until his wife gets back, that way she could come too. I think this is a great idea and will give us another friend in the area.
3) Today we all (Danae, Malikai and I) went to a baby shower for someone at work. I actually had more fun than I thought I would have, which is always good news. And Danae and I ended up winning a good amount of prizes as well. It was a fun party. Malikai enjoyed being held by multiple people, for awhile that is, then he started to get fussy. We went to feed him and we realized that we had bottles, water, and formula, but no nipples for the bottle! Luckily the hostess for the party had some apple sauce and a small spoon handy.
I don't really know what else to write... everything else with us is pretty much the same. We are still playing World of Warcraft, and while we are at it we are creating a Christian guild so we have other believers to hang out with. Don't know how popular it will be, but it should be fun to try anyway.
Hopefully I will start writing more often, with more interesting things and especially some Bible passages that I have been reading that I would really like to share with you all.
Please stay tuned for the next blog.

Weekend Adventures
This weekend was a full weekend for me. It started off with me getting off work early on Friday for a dentist appointment (got a crown, yay...), and then preparing for The Truth Project Bible study planned for that night. After all the preperation, printing out handouts, and all the cleaning that we did to prepare, making snacks, and guess what.... nobody showed up. So that was a big bummer and a bad start to the weekend.
So after waiting a bit Friday night for potential late arriavals, Danae, Malikai and I went to Best Buy to buy something for the computer. While we were there Malikai decided to make as much noise as he could and started crying, which was really embarassing. And later that night I had computer problems and had to make another trip to Best Buy, making mistakes mainly because I was in too big of a hurry to examine the problem throughally. So I was also embarassed that night to call myself a Computer Tech...
Oh well, I learned new things about computers and mainly learned that I should slow down instead of trying to rush buying a part and getting it to work before Best Buy closes.
Saturday I spent some time shopping for Malikai. We had to buy a high chair (which I still have not setup) and a gate to put on our stairs to keep him from crawling down them. We also bought normal minor things like formula and stuff.
Beyond all the shopping, we went for a couple of hikes this weekend. One hike we got to hear a bunch of coyotes howling, that was pretty cool. I didn't bring my camera since we went at night and my camera doesn't take good night pictures anyway. So no pictures this time, but hopefully I can post some pictures the next time we go on a day time hike.
This weekend I also went to see a movie, The Bourne Ultimatum. A really good movie in the series, for more information check out my last blog about the movie. Danae and I also spent more time playing our game World of Warcraft, and even made contact with some old friends that we found out played this game. If you play, contact me so maybe we can meet up in the game some time! If you don't play and want to try it, contact me and I can get you a 10 day free trial.
So this weekend was full of going to the dentist, preparing for Bible study that didn't happen, playing games, going on hikes, shopping for Malikai, going to the movies, and sleeping in so late on Sunday that we missed church...(I hate doing that!!!!). Overall it was a good weekend.
Now I'm working a midnight shift while covering for someone on vacation. Normally I like midnight shift, but since I am only covering for someone else, I have to just do it for a single night and then switch back to a day schedule again. I hate trying to change schedules, but oh well.
Well, I think that is about all I have to say about my weekend. How was your weekend? Let me know!

Off to Another World
I have not been posting messages as often as I thought I would, then again, I haven't been doing much of anything that I thought I would be doing. The reason, I have been off visiting another world.
No, I haven't been to space to see another planet (although that would be awesome!), Danae and I have been stuck in the virtual world, entrapped by the addicting and fun world of Warcraft. It is a video game that you play with other people all around the world. So yeah, that has taken up a lot of our time.
But not all of it. Today I managed to mail out the last documents required for attendance at Calvary Chapel Bible College. I can't wait to get started! There is so much information that I will be learning about the Bible, it will be great. Also today we released another podcast on the ETM Podcast from Ravi Zacharias. It is a fascinating sermon on the uniqueness of Christ in history. If you get a chance, listen to it. You can find it at http://podcast.eternaltruthministry.com so listen to it if you get a chance to.
Let's see, what else would people possibly want to know? Malikai is doing great. Getting bigger and moving around a lot more. The other day I caught him crawling into the bathroom and trying to sneak into the storage area of our basement. It is going to take a lot more of our attention now. There are no new pictures on Malikai's website yet, but there will be before too long. And possibly even a video... but that's a secret. First I will need to take the time to copy all my videos to the computer and then edit them and stuff. It is not an easy or quick process.
Well, that is enough for the night. Stay tuned to this blog and the ETM podcast. There are a couple of interesting sermons that I will be publishing through the podcast, and possibly putting some notes on my blog. The subject matter of who is Christ and also one dealing with the way that mature Christians differ from young Christians, and how mature Christians should act and should stay away from slander. So stay tuned!
I shall leave you with an encouraging verse:
Luke 12:6-7
“Are not five sparrows sold for two pennies? Yet not one of them is forgotten by God. Indeed, the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Don't be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows.”

Fellowshiping among believers
Today was an interesting day. Since I had to work the weekend I had the day off and spent a lot of it running errands with Danae. One place that we had to stop by was near a Christian bookstore that I like going to but have neglected to go by lately. It was great because we were able to have an uplifting and positive conversation with another Christian! That is getting so rare today it seems. Most conversations that we have with other Christians ends up being a knock down fight over doctrine because we don't use the right kind of Bible or something unimportant like that.
Why can't Christians fellowship with each other and lift each other up? I am not talking about those who live in sin, the Bible commands us to point that out to the person and tell them to repent. I'm talking about giving up some minor differences that we may have in theology and fellowship! The Bible warns against those that try to divide the body of Christ. How effective can a body be to help people if one arm is trying to rip the other arm off!
Well the conversation that we had today was great. We talked a little about doctrine and how church was going, what new things were happening in our lives and discussing some good, and bad books. We spent probably an hour or more there just talking. I think Danae and I both feel like we are just starving for that Christian fellowship. In the past we have gotten that from ETM but lately it has been dead. In the past few months, the only Christian that has been active in Biblical discussion (except for Danae and I) has been someone spreading false doctrine about Jesus Christ and salvation. We had to finally tell that person to leave and then we were joined by 3 atheists. It is completely discouraging and every day the thought crosses my mind of if God is wanting us to close down ETM and pursue our ministry elsewhere. ETM is costing me money and a lot of time just for me to feel bad after visiting! I have not had much time to combat the atheists arguments like I should, and even when I have had the time I just don't have the desire. I know the evidence is out there, and I don't mind researching it and posting it except for the fact that I KNOW that no matter what evidence I post, they will reply with something that discredits either the author or the evidence directly.
Talk about discouraging!
So bottom line about that whole rant is that Christians need to get together just to fellowship with each other. Build up one another in the Lord, don't do things to tear them down. If they need to be corrected for something that is obviously Biblically wrong (and not just a personal conviction) then by all means you must correct them, but if it's over a disagreement... there is a time and a place for that, but it is not every time you get together. Just fellowship! Christians should not be in constant battle with other Christians!
After we left the store and got something to eat we went to Home Depot to get some things. We had fun looking at granite counter tops and several other nice things that we could not afford until Malikai spit up all over me! After that, it was just gross and I wanted to get out of there. It starts out all warm, and then turns cold but the entire time my shirt was sticking to my skin and smelling and... yeah, it wasn't fun.
So after doing a few other things tonight we decided to go to the movies. We went to see Ratatouie, and since we don't have a baby sitter we brought Malikai along with us. Everything went great at first, Malikai just stared at the screen and I got my hopes up too high... Malikai didn't cry at all, but he did start his high pitched squealing so in order to be polite to the other guests I carried him out into the hallway for awhile. As soon as we were in the hallway he was quite and looking around a lot, so I thought it was safe to bring him back in.
Nope, I was wrong, again he started making a lot of noise. Even if I put my finger in his mouth, he would chomp down really hard while making high pitched noises! So I had to leave the movie altogether. I did get my money back and then I proceeded to go to Borders book store in the mall. There I found a copy of the book that I am reading and sat down to read while Danae finished the movie. It didn't take long for Malikai to start crying, but I didn't care so I let him cry himself to sleep while I continued to read.
After the movie Danae and I decided to go for a drive (we were going to go for a walk but it was raining). We drove way up into the mountains behind Garden of the Gods park. It was really cool, but the shocks on the car probably didn't like the dirt road. We went a little ways up, and we saw a sign that said "No shooting next 18 miles". It was at this time we decided that we wouldn't make the end of the road (it was a quarter till 11) so we started to look for a place to turn around. It was shortly after the last sign when we came to another sign that said "shooting range 2.5 miles". Hmm, a shooting range in an area where shooting is not allowed.. I bet that is a fun place to go! Reminds me of another similar, contradicting sign that I saw today. At the pet store it said "No refunds after 5 days" and then later down it said "No refunds for checks before 10 days". So if you write a check, you are not allowed to get a refund I guess...
I was going to write some more tonight, but it is late and this is long enough, so I think I will sign off now.
May the Lord be with you as you go through your week, and may you focus on His will in your life instead of your own wants and desires. Seek first the kingdom of God, and all other things will be added....

No Compassion for Jon
I went to take that test on C# today, and did about as well as expected. I got a 41% overall, which is not bad since I have had a total of about 3 1/2 days of experience. The test did show me what areas I need to work on learning, things like integrating with SQL databases and using it to create websites. I think that once I learn those I will do pretty well.
The end result though is that Robert Half Technology didn't think that my skills in C# met the criteria that Compassion International wanted. They want someone who has a few years of experience, not just a few days. So the chances are that I will not get the job, but it's all up to the will of God. If it's God's will that I work there then I will, if not, then I would rather be where He wants me than to move away from His will just to do what I think I want to do.
From what I have heard, programming in C# is a somewhat rare skill, so I will be pursuing the knowledge until I know it really well or hate it and decide I would not want to do it for a job. I would love a job programming, but sometimes it does get annoying when you can't figure out why something is giving you an error. I think the frustration level is minimal though compared to doing something that I like doing. Why do I like to program even with the frustrations involved? Mainly I think I just like seeing a creation that I make being used. I don't feel like what I am doing is useless because I can see the results of it. There is that reason, plus I just love to make things.
With the test out of the way I can finally take a break from studying and get some neglected house work done. The upstairs toilette needs some parts replaced, along with about 15 other projects that I need to do around the house. Plus we have a Bible study that looks like it I will finally be starting up this Friday night, so that involves helping Danae getting more house work done than what normally needs to be done. After that I plan on relaxing with a good movie for the night, and maybe read some more of my book. I have so many books that I have been wanting to read, there just isn't enough time for them all.
Malikai is getting bigger by the day. Even Danae was mentioning today how he looks so much bigger inside the cage (aka play pen) than he did last Friday when we set it up. Malikai has also started to crawl a lot more, making his way past any toys that we put in front of him to any type of dangling thin wire hanging out of the wall or TV. He really knows what he wants and he goes for it. He is an amazing baby, and very cute, just can't wait until I can start doing more with him (like skiing!). Oh yeah, as soon as he turns 5 years old I will be hitting the slopes with Malikai. Speaking of skiing, I am going to make it a point to go at least 3 times this season. I didn't get to go last season even though I had tickets already paid for because of having a new baby and everything. This year I will make it out to the slopes!
Well, that's about all the new information that I have for today. Check back soon for more updates!

Console.Write("Too Much C#!");
For the majority of last night and all day today I have been slaving over the computer and the book "C# for Dummies". Luckily I enjoy programming enough that it doesn't bother me to spend all day learning something new. I defiantly have a basic understanding of the language now, so now I just need to get in a lot of practice before I take the test on Wednesday.
Unfortunately I had to miss a men's breakfast at church this morning, I really want to start getting involved in my church more and a Bible study with other men is a great way to do that (especially when food is involved). But it is a necessary sacrifice to make for me to try and pursue this new career. I really hope that all the hard work and long hours pays off.
Today we started to put Malikai in his play pen while I was working, and he seemed to enjoy it a lot. Being able to move around without us constantly grabbing him and pulling him away from things. (At the very least I enjoyed it!). He is enjoying his toys a lot more, especially the talking and singing stuffed dog that he has. If it is behind him, every time he kicks it and it makes noise Malikai tries to look behind him at what is making noise. It really does look cute when he does it.
Well, I need to get back to programming and learning as much of C# as I can. Please pray that I do good on the test on Wednesday, and that my comprehension of this programming language will exceed my years (days) of experience with it.

First Blog
Well I have finally broken down and gotten a blog. After trying a few other blogging programs for my last website I have decided to stick with this site. It seems pretty well made and easy to use, so here we go.
As a new parent, the first thing that I can think of to write about is my baby boy. I had to work last weekend so we were not able to go to church on Sunday. Instead we tried to go Saturday night after I got off work. Unfortunately we didn't get there in time, so we had to sit in the lobby with the other late arrivals. At our church they don't allow small children in the main sanctuary during services. After sitting in the lobby where they do allow children I can honestly see why they do that. It was so noisy with all the kids, and there were only about 10 or so kids out there. We could hardly hear the pastor at all. I'm proud to say that for the most part Malikai was completely silent. He was enjoying watching the people around us and sliding around the floor on his socks (I was holding him up by his arms). Except for this one time, when everybody else was quiet Malikai let out this really big and loud burp. It was really hard not to laugh at that.
Monday night Danae and I went for a hike in Garden of the Gods. We got there late at night and walked through the park in the dark. It was really nice and peaceful, just enjoying God's creation, the animals we could hear rustling in the bushes, the stars in the sky, knowing how complex the universe is and how everything works together to allow for life on this planet. The entire time we are walking through the path, Malikai is making weird noises, like he is talking the entire time without moving his mouth, just making the same exact noise, the only time the sound changed was when he was bounced from my walking with him. I guess he was enjoying being out in God's creation as well.
Besides that, Malikai is starting to move around a bit on his belly. He loves to scoot towards things, especially my computer or anything else that looks like a wire. Why is it that babies like wires so much? For the most part Malikai moves backwards, but he is starting to move forward more often now. Somehow he keeps getting to my computer and REACHING FOR THE Keyboard. And hitting the caps lock key ...(that was Malikai making it all caps and back to normal, not me). If you are wondering how he reached the keyboard, I'm using my laptop on the floor right now while watching a movie.
That's enough about Malikai for now. Right now I'm reading a book titled "How to Counsel God's Way" by Bob Hoekstra. The focus of the book is showing what counseling should be like according to the Bible. It really is shedding light on the problems with psychology and counseling today, even those that call themselves Christian counselors are more often than not just psychologists that use worldly counseling techniques and occasionally bring in the Bible. This has become even more apparent lately as I attend the counseling sessions with Danae. I can see how instead of focusing on what will help a person, bringing them to Jesus, counselors focus on bringing up the past and what the individual can do to help themselves. Bringing up the past more than likely is going to just make matters worse by rehashing old things that should have been done away with. Sometimes we do need someone to talk to about things that are bothering us, but counselors tend to bring up things in the distant past thinking that if we can somehow alter the effect that each event has had on us then we can become a better person.
Without Christ we cannot change ourselves for the better. It is only through His blood that we can be forgiven of our past, and only through His Spirit in our lives that we can change to be more like what God wants.
Another problem with modern counselors is that it tends to make the person being counseled gossip about others. Let's get the dirt on every person we have interacted with in our lives and see what influence that person has had on us or is having on us. Most of the time this information is not needed, it just gets the person being counseled to vent and gossip about the other.
Another important point to mention is that the goal of modern counselors, even most Christian counselors is to ease a persons suffering and help them cope with what they are going through via their own means. This may be interfering with what God has in mind for that person. A lot of times God uses events to strengthen a person and God wants that person to rely on Him and get closer to Him.
Our main goal through life is to grow closer to God and rely on Him, to deny to ourself and take up our cross. (Matthew 16:24).
I have a praise report to give today. Danae's dad was diagnosed with Diabetes over a month ago. Luckily he did the right thing and changed his diet to combat the diabetes without getting on medication. It was a tough battle to give up some of the food that he loved but he did it, and was able to control the diabetes strictly through diet and exercise. Today he went to the doctor for a checkup and they said that he is doing so well that he is no longer considered a diabetic. Also, because of his diet he no longer has high blood pressure and can get off all of his medication. God has a lot of healing power that He has given us through natural food, if we would just use it more instead of processed foods and high fructose corn syrup with as much sugar as we can get. Also if we would just show some self control in what we eat we could be so much healthier, and this is a great example of that. Something that I need to learn and take to heart.... or stomach... so I can be healthier. :)
Anyway, praise the Lord for healing, if it's natural or supernatural. I guess that is enough for my first blog. Tonight we are going to go back to Garden of the Gods for another hike with Malikai. Only this time hopefully before it gets too dark or too late so I can get plenty of sleep before work tomorrow.
Good night and God bless everyone.
- Jon
